Thirty jobs
have been created at a Birmingham
hotel after a multi-million-pound development was completed.
Digbeth-based Ace
Hospitality will operate the new 83-bedroom venue on Coventry Road, in Yardley, under the Holiday
Inn Express brand after securing finance for the deal and recruiting members
of staff.
The
building, formerly known as Burgess House, was purchased by development
partnership Tavern Investments in 2008 after partners saw the potential to
convert the disused former office building.
They said
given its close proximity to the NEC, Birmingham
International Airport
and the city centre and plans for Birmingham
Airport’s new runway
and the new HS2 Link there will be growing demand in the area.

Construction
work has now been completed by Anglo Holt after a finance
package had been agreed through NatWest Commercial Banking.
A
spokesperson for Ace Hospitality said the work has transformed a potential
eyesore: “The development of this property became something of a labour of love.
"The
team spirit and determination kept us all focused on the same goal.
“We
undertook the challenge to regenerate a largely disadvantaged area of our
city, thus supporting the local economy by bringing the international Holiday
Inn Express name to Yardley and the people to Birmingham.
"Also,
creating new jobs was very important to us. When we look back at how the
building has been transformed from a vacant dilapidated office building,
which was boarded up and vandalised and was
generally a nuisance and eyesore for the local neighbourhood,
it feels like we have made a huge achievement.
"We
hope the local community will be proud to be associated with this building.”
Development
work began in December and has been completed by this Thursday’s deadline.
The site has
a 65-space car park, as well as a restaurant, bar and meeting room
facilities.
A
spokesperson for Ace Hospitality said it received more than 400 applicants
for 30 jobs after advertising through JobCentrePlus.
